World Habitat Day

In the context of World Habitat Day, “the Network for Nature Protection”- a network of environmental organizations supported by SENiOR-A project, organized an awareness-raising activity near the Straw Habitat Marsh in Kukes. Due to the presence of a rich natural environment with minimal human footprint, this area and its surrounding habitats were choosed to serve as symbols to mark the World Habitat Day. Straw marshland ecosystem is a natural wetland in very good condition and currently enjoys the status of \"Natural Monument\". It serves as a resort and is attended by a large number of migratory birds, as well as a shelter for some species.

The event was organized by the local organization for “Environmental Protection” in Kukes in collaboration with INCA and it was attended by representatives from all network member organizations, local government representatives, local civil society organizations, national and local media.

The first Monday of October was officially designated by the United Nations as World Habitat Day commemorating the anniversary of the First International Conference of United Nations on Human Settlements, held in Vancouver, Canada in 1976. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to remind the world of its responsibilities in the future of sustainable environmental habitats. In Albania as well, during these Days, for several consecutive years have been organized various initiatives and awareness activities.
