Study visit in the MPA of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo

Tavloara - Punta Coda Cavallo, Sardinia, 03-06 June 2015
In the framework of the SEA-Med project, INCA conducted a study visit to the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara in Sardinia. The visit aimed at exchanging experiences on best management practices of Marine Protected Areas as well as recognition of the MPA as one of the most successful in the Mediterranean. Apart from INCA specialists and the project implementation team, in the visit participated also representatives from various institutions including NAPA, UNDP, Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Orikum, Vlora Chamber of Commerce. The visit resulted in a very rewarding experience offering the opportunity to see how tourist-related activities are managed within the MPA. Fruitful discussions were held about the benefits and obstacles to operating in an MPA, lessons learned and recommendations for the Sazan's Karaburuni MPA.
The visit was also useful in building new relationships and exchanging of ideas between tourism operators and several stakeholders such as diving centers, cruise ships operators, restaurants, etc.
