Nature education rooted in community engagement!

 

As part of the COASTRUST project, financed under the EU Interreg EuroMED program, we organized a series of awareness-raising activities with students from the Velipojë High School.

The focus was on the Buna River Protected Landscape and the surrounding wetlands. This is an expansive and ecologically rich protected area—yet without community awareness and active contribution, its preservation becomes increasingly challenging.

The COASTRUST project introduces the concept of environmental stewardship, emphasizing the key role of communities in the care and protection of natural areas. In discussions with students, we explored the landscape's ecological values and how they can help protect and promote their homeland, both for nature conservation and local sustainable tourism development.

The day concluded with a visit to the Visitor Centre of the Buna–Velipojë Protected Landscape, followed by a coastal cleanup along Velipojë Beach.

Every small action matters—especially when it inspires future guardians of nature!
