International Day for Biological Diversity

On May 22nd, the International Day for Biological Diversity, INCA in cooperation with REC Albania and several environmental organizations from Korca and Pogradec, the Municipality of Pogradec and the commune of Hudenisht, organized a peaceful demonstration in one of the most problematic and damaged areas of the Lake Ohrid, where for several months a new road is being built.

The construction of the road is associated with visible destruction on the waterside of the lake. On one hand there is commitment in promoting the values of the oldest lake in the world with many endemic species and seeking to incorporate it in the list of World Natural Heritage (UNESCO), and in turn, a road is under construction in a way that it’s destroying a considerable length of the waterside and the surrounding area of 10 km by discharging concrete in the area and throwing debris into the lake.
