INCA & BeMed+: Partners for a Cleaner Mediterranean
INCA is coordinating the implementation of the BeMed+ project in Albania—Beyond Plastic Med: Commit to a Plastic-Free Mediterranean Sea, an initiative funded by the French Fund for Global Environment (FFEM) and implemented by BeMed, Surfrider Foundation Europe, and IUCN.
BeMed+ is a regional initiative aimed at reducing plastic pollution through field action, community engagement, and sustainable innovation.
In Albania, the focus is on the Shkumbin River watershed, where we are piloting innovative and inclusive models for plastic waste management across municipalities, the HoReCa sector, and sports tourism.
Phase 1 achievements: – Mapped plastic pollution hotspots– Assessed the national legal framework
– Actively engaged youth volunteers in the field, contributing to monitoring efforts and community awareness
– Drafted a policy paper with practical recommendations
A National Conference brought together key stakeholders to foster dialogue and lay the foundation for a locally led action plan, currently in development.
