Connecting Science, Policy, and Action to Create a Plastic-Free Future!

Plastic pollution poses a serious threat to biodiversity, economies, and communities across the Mediterranean. On April 2nd and 3rd, 2025, during the Regional Forum on "Promoting sustainable, inclusive, science and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goals in the ECE region, leaving no one behind" in Geneva, Switzerland, the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, part of the BeMed+ initiative took an inspiring step forward organizing an online event to tackle the growing challenge of plastic pollution.

Discussions at the event highlighted critical priorities like collaboration, transparency, accountability, and source reduction—all aimed at turning knowledge into impactful actions.

The Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania (INCA) actively contributed, showcasing its hands-on work as part of the BeMed+ project "Beyond Plastic Med—Commit to a Plastic-Free Mediterranean Sea". Their efforts focus on engaging communities along the Shkumbin River and addressing plastic pollution in the HORECA sector, sports, and municipal waste management—a testament to practical, community-driven solutions.
