Cleanup and Monitoring Action – for a Cleaner Shkumbin River!

Today, along the Shkumbin River, a combined cleanup and monitoring activity was carried out following the OSPAR methodology.

Participants included volunteers and representatives from:

• Elbasan Municipality and Librazhd Municipality

• The Regional Administration of Protected Areas in Elbasan

• Civil society organizations from Elbasan and Librazhd

• The Mountaineering Federation in Elbasan

This activity was carried out within the framework of the BeMed+ project and through a microgrant awarded by BeMed to the local NGO AGRIEN, focusing on reducing plastic pollution in the Shkumbin River and the Mediterranean Sea.

The action was led by Surfrider Foundation Europe and the Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania (INCA), in collaboration with AGRIEN and the Agency of Sport and Tourism in Elbasan.

This initiative also stood out as a good model of uniting and engaging local actors, creating a valuable synergy of their contributions for greater awareness and advocacy in protecting the river and the environment – for today and for the future.
