CALL TO ACTION for the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3)

🌊 UNOC 3: IUCN members call on States to make ambitious announcements!

On the opening day of the third United Nations Ocean Conference, nearly 80 IUCN member organizations, both in France and abroad, signed the call to action initiated by the Comité français de l'UICN to call on States to make ambitious announcements so that UNOC 3 results in a strong and action-oriented political declaration. Among the 13 recommendations of this ambitious call, I would like to highlight a few:
👉 Increasing the surface area of ​​the high seas marine protected areas network through rapid ratification of the BBNJ Treaty
👉 Implementing ambitious investment policies to ensure that 30% of the surface area of ​​degraded marine ecosystems is being restored by 2030
👉 Reducing the impact of fishing on marine biodiversity, particularly by reducing incidental catches
👉 Adopting a definition of the regenerative blue economy that clearly integrates the challenges of preserving and restoring marine ecosystems
