New strategy for South-Eastern Europe takes form in Tirana

“A Sustainable future for South-Eastern Europe - Strategic direction for IUCN in South-Eastern Europe”, will be discussed from 6 to 8 March 2013 in Tirana, Albania, where IUCN and partners meet to define priority goals for the region and formulate an effective and result-oriented programme. The preliminary results of regional needs assessment survey carried out by IUCN will be presented and discussed at the meeting. 

More than 70 attendees are expected at the IUCN Members’ meeting. Mr. Fatmir Mediu, Minister of Environment, Forests and Water Administration of Albania, Mr. Massimo Gaiani, Italian Ambassador to Albania and Mr. Ettore Sequi, Ambassador of EU Delegation to Albania, and Mr. Michael Hošek, IUCN Councilor for East Europe, North and Central Asia will intervene at the event. Around 50 IUCN Member and partner organizations will attend the event which takes place exactly 10 years after the members’ meeting that inaugurated the IUCN Programme Office for South-Eastern Europe (IUCN SEE). 

IUCN SEE Members’ meeting is co-organized by the IUCN SEE office, IUCN Members in Albania – Institute for Nature Conservation of Albania (INCA) and Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA), and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Water Administration of Albania, and supported by the MAVA Foundation.
