3rd International Congress on Marine Protected Areas
The 3rd International Congress on Marine Protected Areas (IMPAC3) took place in Marseille (France) from 21-25 October 2013. In this important event participated two representatives from the Institute for Nature Conservation, Dr. Zamir Dedej and Dr. Genti Kromidha with financial support provided by the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Action Plan (RAC/SPA, UNEP-MAP). Mr. Kromidha presented our country\'s experience in one of the workshops that were held in this Congress. Two posters were prepared and displayed at the event to showcase Albania’s work in this area: \"Strategic Plan for Marine Protected Areas of the Coast (PSZMDB) in Albania\" and \"Identification of potential eco-tourism in Karaburun - Sazan Marine Park and its surrounding area.
The event became very helpful in terms of networking and strengthening cooperation. Several bilateral meetings were organized by INCA’s representatives to seek new opportunities for collaborations and joint projects in the field of marine biodiversity. The discussions were focused on the ongoing work with RAC/SPA for proclaiming the second marine protected area; seeking new opportunities for the continuation and further coordination work with WWF MedPO, as well as with MAVA Foundation, for a possible collaboration with the Conservatoire du Littoral and Convention on Migratory Species. Some initial discussions took place also with the representative of the French Fund for the Environment (FFEM) to support the initiative of Prince Albert II of Monaco in the establishment of a fund for projects in the maritime area.
